New window treatments can make your home a much more marketable place. Buyers will have a sigh of relief after seeing that your windows are newly treated and that they do not feel the need to replace them or so. They will even treat that as a bonus on their part.

There are different windows to the different parts of the house. Small are smaller while others are bigger for some purpose they serve. And since they vary in shapes and sizes, you will have to have a bigger budget.

There will be times that the home stager will suggest that you do something with your windows or any other parts of your house to make it look more appeasing to your customers. Sometimes, he will suggest that you repair the windows or add more materials to the window to make it look beautiful.

Home stagers will likely suggest different kinds of design and style from each and every window of your house. They can either suggest that you take down your current window and add a floor to ceiling window panels to accommodate more light into a certain part of the house. Overall, your home stager will help make your home much more appealing to your buyers.

Another way to make your home much more appealing is to do an overall treatment. Make sure that every window inside the house is covered and well-treated.

Smaller windows need top treatments since they usually provide a good amount of light inside the house during the day. Make sure that you also add some side panels to make a good elegant ambiance.

When you have finally decide to sell your home and you are done with all the repairs, walk through your home and act as if you are a buyer and see how everything is done. Is it good enough for you?

If there are still flaws to your design, then a home stager is more likely to be able to help you with that.

The writer also often blogs regarding products including BreathRX and hot water heating systems.

Stamped concrete, which is poured concrete imprinted with molds to resemble such paving materials as flagstone and brick, has been used in building construction since the 1950s. However, new ways of coloring concrete and of imparting texture to the surface has made this building material so attractive it is being used more and more in homes and by businesses.

You may have seen imprinted concrete without even realizing it. Sometimes there will be variations – such as strips of brick – at intersections, where the cars stop for the traffic lights. These will probably be concrete fashioned to look like individual bricks or stones. Patios and walkways at hotels that look like fine slate or flagstone might well be concrete, which stands up to heavy foot traffic, resists moisture, will not tilt out of position with weather extremes, and which will not be invaded with grass or weeds.

Concrete also requires no adhesives, which are often harmful in terms of air pollution. The concrete itself will have a high solar reflectivity index, causing less of a heating effect than other materials, and of course may be recycled at the end of its usefulness.

And, yes, it is used on walls of homes and businesses. Concrete siding is very attractive, with simulated wood grain and unlimited choice in color which does not chip or fade. This material is also used for floors: tile floors in entryways, kitchens, or baths; smooth and glossy floors in high traffic areas at upscale hotels and resorts; low maintenance floors in golf cart barns that do not sacrifice elegance for practicality.

Concrete is very long-lasting. With proper preparation of the ground beneath it, the poured expanse will not crack, is impervious to moisture, will not sink or rise with the forces of frost heaves, and does not have spaces where grass and weeds can grow. The color is impregnated throughout the concrete or into the upper surface to enough depth that the color will not fade. It stands up to heavy foot traffic, weather conditions, furniture moving, dropped objects, and spills. In every way, maintenance is reduced by using concrete.

Concrete can even look like wood, with the color either impregnated throughout the concrete or applied to the wet surface where it sinks in for a lasting finish. Wood siding on homes and commercial buildings looks like expensive wood siding, though it is much more affordable, durable and impervious to insect damage and warping. It has a high thermal mass as well, cutting energy costs as well.

Think of the possibilities. The driveway of your upscale golf community home can look like brick or cut stone, without needing a stone mason or brick layer for weeks to get it finished. Rather, concrete artists can do the job almost as quickly as conventional asphalt surfacing can be done. Same with your entryway inside, or the walks around the flowerbeds, or the deck around the pool.

Every installation is essentially a custom job. There are many design galleries and pattern samples online which you can use for inspiration. You may be amazed at what you see.

Looking for a concrete contractor? Then be sure to visit the experts at Elite Concrete, one of the top concrete contractors in Toronto and the GTA offering stamped concrete services including patios, driveways, walkways and even full landscaping designs.

The question when you are thinking about making a garden is: do you have a choice of where to put it. For example, you may have a very big garden or you may be looking for an allotment from the local council. However, if you do not have a choice, then you will have to choose the kind of plants you want for your garden according to its location and condition.

If, however, you are lucky enough to have a choice, then the chief consideration is the sun. In fact, even more significant that that is what type of plants you want to grow. If you want flowers that prefer the sun or if you like flowers that cannot bear it, then the position of the garden is critical.

In the northern hemisphere, the majority of gardeners would pick a south-facing garden, if they had the choice, but not everyone. Some gardeners are interested in marsh plants or woodland plants, for instance. If you do make the majority choice and go for a south-facing garden, then your planting beds should run from north to south, because that way they will receive maximum exposure to the sun’s rays.

If, however, you cannot obtain a south-facing garden, but you can acquire one facing southeast, then your flower beds should run north-west to south-east for the greatest exposure to the sun. Other directions can be worked out in a like manner.

The idea, whichever way your garden is facing, is to get the sun shining as near to 50% on each side of the plants as possible. The only real way of gaining success in this question is by having a south-facing garden in the northern hemisphere or a north-facing garden in the southern hemisphere.

When you have determined the best place to put your garden, or which way it is facing, you should start designing it. This can best be done on graph paper. The first step is to draw a scale diagram of your garden. Once you have done that, you ought to prepare the ground by either clearing it of rubbish or clearing the scrub.

If your garden has reasonable turf, plan on your graph paper where you want your flower beds to be and draw them in. Then cut these areas out of your garden.

Depending how much area you have set aside for plants, you can now either dig it over or rotovate it. Whichever means you choose, do it to the best of your ability, because once you have flowers and bushes in your garden, you will not find it so straightforward again. Dig plenty of manure into the earth while you are about it.

Now that you have a decent environment for your future plants, you can go about choosing your plants. This has to be done with the orientation of your garden in mind, if you want to make the most of the space that you have available to you.

If you want to moderate a south-facing garden, this can easily be done by adding trees and bushes to provide shade, but it is not easy to heat up a cold north-facing garden.

Looking to find a way to add value as well as update the look of your home? Concrete pavers are a beautiful way to update your landscape. While this may not be an inexpensive project it will be one that is rewarding not only in looks but in longevity.

While each job done in paving stones will obviously not cost the same there are certain areas of this type of work that affects the cost of each project. Included may be:

Geography location: If you live in Beverly Hills expect to pay more than if you lived in downtown LA. All areas have an impact on pricing and we have to expect to pay for where we live.

Pavers: Not all pavers are considered equal, some may hold up better than others and this needs to be considered before they are purchased. Will they have to stand up to the cold snow and ice or will they be under a cover that will protect them? Will you drive your car on them every day or maybe just walk on them? Keeping in mind the use will help you make the right choice for your project.

Size of the job: Square footage is usually customary for pricing these types of jobs. Each job size is not the same and will reflect in the cost. A larger job costs more than a smaller one of course but with a larger job the square foot cost may be lower.

Contractors: The one thing we all dread is finding the right person to do a job for us, while most contractors do good work there are those out there that do not know how to do everything. Try to research contractors for the type of work they do, most will be able to show you previous work so that you can get an idea if they are capable of the job. Remember the lower the cost may mean the lower quality of work.

Prep work: If you have a tar driveway and want to replace it with pavers the cost of your project will be more to remove the existing driveway, the same would be true for a patio or walkway. Ground conditions are another task that has to be tended to as well, consider in all the areas of the job you are wanting done so there are no surprises.

Design: A straight walkway will cost less than a curvy one; a square patio will be less than one that goes around a pool or hot tub. All these things will reflect in the cost and should be worked out with the contractor to keep your budget in line.

The writer also often shares knowledge regarding subject including soda fountain machine and table skirting.

Gardening is a very popular hobby especially among homeowners, which means the over-thirties to be honest. A pretty garden certainly does make a house look better. However, bedding plants and fruit trees can be quite expensive, consequently a lot of gardeners want or already have some form of greenhouse so that they can propagate plants themselves and grow more exotic flowers and fruits.

It really depends on the kind of greenhouse you have and where you live, but many greenhouses can be ‘adjusted’ to grow most varieties of plants from around the world. Global warming has helped in this respect as well. In most places, you can grow grapes from France or orchids from Thailand where normally such plants would die outside.

Therefore, having a greenhouse is a little like keeping a tropical fish tank. The gardener has brought those plants to a part of the globe where they cannot support themselves. They should not be there, so it is up to the gardener to create the conditions in which those plants can flourish. This has mostly to do with ventilation, temperature control, humidity and lighting.

Lighting is especially important in the winter in the temperate zones, because the duration of sunlight can be as low as two or three hours and the quality of light can be very bad. Just because it is light enough for you to see where you are going does not mean that it is bright enough for a plant to sustain itself.

Light in the tropics is always bright for most of the day and there is perhaps only an hour difference between daylight hours in the summer and the winter. Normally there are about twelve hours of light and twelve hours of darkness.

Obviously, this means that is likely that you will have to supply some sort of artificial lighting if you have a green house. I have never seen a greenhouse in the tropics.

Which kind of greenhouse light you buy, really depends on the type of plants you intend growing. If you want tropical orchids, for instance, you will need a high level of humidity, which means that your light will have to be water-resistant or even waterproof.

Another factor to keep in mind is the photo period – the length of time you will need to provide light. This could be as much as twelve hours at a time in the winter, so you will need a light that can handle that without becoming over heated

Different lights produce different wavelengths of light, that is light from different parts of the spectrum. These different wavelengths of light produce different results, so you will need to know what you want to achieve before you can buy a greenhouse light. Spectrum colours are good for encouraging the growth of orchids, but you will have to do some research, once you know what you want to cultivate.

In conclusion, if the greenhouse light is to be used for many hours a day, look out for an energy efficient light. It may be more expensive, but it will pay for itself. Cheaper lights often waste energy by generating heat, but more heat is not always a good idea. It is far better to control the temperature separately.

Owen Jones, the author of this article writes on several subjects, but is at present involved with researching wrought iron floor lamps.

Pendant lighting is a simple way to add something special to any room in your home. There’s a great difference between a pendant light and a traditional light bulb as pendant lights come in many different colors, styles, shapes and sizes. This guide will help you understand how to install pendant lights (swag lights) as this process can be a bit tricky.

In this guide I’ll discuss two different options; temporarily installation or permanently installing your pendant lights. It’s more common to hang temporarily, so I’ll start with these instructions first.

In order to temporarily install your pendant lights, there are a few supplies you must have. Make sure you have an electric plug, extra metal chain and a long piece of wire that will reach from the light to the electrical outlet. To determine how much wire you need (always get an extra foot) measure the distance from the light to the outlet.

Now that you have the supplies, the next step gets a bit tricky. You’ll need to remove the original electric supply wire from the light. With the new wire you’ll want to add it on by attaching it to the wire with the plug at the end of the wire. Then supply the wire in and out the sides of the chain. At this point, your pendant light should be ready to hang. Once you’ve installed a solid hook on the ceiling, hang the light and plug it in!

I personally prefer to temporarily hang pendant lights. If you ever plan on moving or you want to move the light, all you need to do is remove the hanging light from the hook. When it comes to cleaning the light, it’s the same process. Remove the light and clean!

If you’re planning on permanently installing your hanging light, it’s probably going to be a bit easier. It will basically already be assembled, possibly with some decorative pieces that can be added to the light. The wiring process is tougher though. If you don’t have electrical skills you’ll want to hire an electrician. You’ll need some sort of electrical skills and some tools. Be sure to have a wire cutter, electrical tape, a screwdriver and all the provided materials!

Now that you’re ready to install, first shut off the power from the fuse box or circuit breaker. Now remove the light fixture and leave the wires. You’ll need to add the hanging light to the outlet box on the ceiling and attach the electrical supply wires to the wires on the pendant light. Now you’re ready to secure the light on the ceiling. Once you turn the power back on and install a light bulb, you’re light should be ready to shine!

I hope this has helped you understand how to install your new pendant lights. Once you’ve installed your light, it will create a new feel to the room. Good luck!

You’ll find information on all sorts of lighting, including his favorite type of light – a lovely glass pendant light.

Adding a retractable awning to your home will help your home in several ways. Energy bills will decrease, your home will appear nicer and you have the option of enjoying a hot sunny day in the shade. When shopping for a retractable awning, always look for a combination of a quality product that’s in your budget and that can handle the outdoors.

Retractable awnings will protect your indoor and outdoor furniture from sun damage. It will also protect your skin from a sun burn during the summer. Since the suns rays are blocked from entering the house, the heat in your home will noticeable reduce as well. In order to use the awning even on a rainy day, make sure the fabric is weather proof and water resistant.

It’s proven that awnings can reduce energy bills by almost 25% during the summer. They’ll reduce the heat in the protected room, which means you won’t need to use the AC as much. If your room is facing south or west, this is the best room to protect since sunlight points directly in this direction. The awning will reduce the light before it’s able to penetrate into the room, which is said to reduce the room temperature up to 75%.

Retractable awnings will also aesthetically add to your home as long as you choose something that will complement your house. Awnings can also a touch of old charm to a house if done in a traditional way or even make a home feel more modern if you choose modern awnings. When you roll an awning out, you’re creating more living space. This option is much cheaper than construction!

The installation process is quite simple and doesn’t require much help (unless you’re not handy!). Be sure to find a product with a long warranty. If the awning lasts for at least 10 years, then it ends up being a great investment! Some awnings will require more maintenance the others, so keep this in mind when shopping around.

Retractable awnings tend to be more durable than just a simple canopy. With the option to retract, you’re able to keep them away from any potential harm to the materials. Conditions such as snow, hail, rain, heavy wind can all damage an awning or canopy if it’s not protected. The arms can easily snap on an awning from accumulating snow fall. With the ability to retract the awning, you should have no problem keeping the awning in great shape for years!

There’s a wide range of prices for retractable awnings. Medium sized awnings usually start in the $500 range, while the larger options tend to cost $900+. Of course, it all depends on the quality though! Motorized awnings can also be purchased with a starting price of $1,500+.

Hopefully this guide has helped you learn more about retractable awnings. They’re a great way to enjoy the outdoors on a nice sunny day! Be sure to shop around as there are many options available.

Decorative concrete is very versatile. It is also a less expensive choice than using other medium. Once you have chosen concrete their are further ways to save money using decorative concrete services. After looking at concrete you might decide you would have wanted it over granite or marble anyway.

Many people assume that concrete is only used for things like city sidewalks. People also assume it can only be rough in texture and gray in color. In fact in can be molded into many shapes and can be stained to be many hues. These are misconceptions to get over before considering concrete.

These days it is very popular to replace counter tops. Many people choose granite and marble for their kitchens. The use of these materials is widespread but with the economy having challenges people are looking for alternatives.

Concrete is a great alternative to replacing counter tops. Concrete is less costly. Concrete can be made to look surprisingly similar to granite and marble. The surface can be made smooth and shiny. Concrete also has the sturdiness of granite. It can handle hot pans and resist scratches.

Of course the more intricate you get with any design the higher the cost. This is true with counter tops as well as a concrete fireplace surrounding. If you want to lower your cost of something like this you will want to use less detail. You will also want to reduce your number of curves.

Another place where concrete saves you money is if you are choosing to put in a floor. This can be in either a commercial or home setting. Concrete is cheaper than marble or granite. It also is as durable as those surfaces. Concrete can be polished to give a shiny look that rivals those other two surfaces. Concrete is very durable as a flooring choice.

Once you have chosen a concrete floor you can save even more money based on your design choices. This is particularly true for a basic commercial or basement floor. To save money choose one color of stain. Having more than one color can look very nice but it will take more money out of your pocket.

It is a more versatile medium than one would expect. You can used it in various areas such as pool decks, patios, and private sidewalks. These are just a few of the possibilities. A very distinctive driveway can also be made from concrete.

Another way to save money is to reduce the number of saw cuts in your project. You can also resist the suggestions of the designer to add graphics and details. You want to keep your material and labor costs to a minimum. It can be hard resist their wonderful suggestions but you have to consider your budget.

A quality place for decorative concrete services will provide you with a list of costs. It will be broken down by labor costs and materials. You will also get an estimated time to develop your project. The cost of the designer will be part of the bill.

Elite Concrete offers decorative concrete services including stamped concrete patios, driveways and full landscaping designs. Find out why Elite Concrete is one of the top concrete contractors in Toronto and the GTA.

On a hot summer day, sitting on a patio or a deck can get really uncomfortable as you’re sweating away and getting burnt by the sun. It’s nice to relax in the sun at times, but having the option of sitting in the shade is a nice luxury. It can cost a couple thousand dollars to purchase an awning, but if this isn’t your budget, there’s still an option for you! This guide will share with you how to solve this situation by building your own patio awning!

Let’s make sure you have all the proper tools and materials to successfully build your new awning. You’ll need an electric drill, a tape measure, 4 grommets, 4 sections of rope, 4 stakes, 2 key rings, 2 support poles, 2 screw hooks a large needle and a sewing machine and of course the canvas to cover the patio. Make sure the canvas is large.

The first step will be to determine the size of the canvas you need for your awning. Always purchase more than you think you need this way you have extra material for a hem. Now your sewing skills will come into play! You’ll now need to sew the hems around the material; this will help avoid any fraying. Since this canvas will be outdoors, use nylon thread since it’s more durable in the outdoor conditions. On the four corners, install one grommet on each corner.

Once the grommets are in place, take the tape measure and measure from one grommet to the other. On the side you plan on having the awning branch out from, drill two pilot holes on the wood siding. These holes will make it much easier for you in the next step; screw the hooks into the pilot holes.

On each grommet, install a single key ring. You’ll want to do this on the side of the awning that’s going up against the house. Hook the key rings on the hooks, so it will be a total of two key rings placed on the two hooks. At this point, you’ve already installed an entire side of your awning!

Now it’s time to install the poles to support the awning. Stretch the canvas awning out to determine where to place the supporting poles. The poles should be sturdily placed in the dirt or have a flat base to stand on. Take the poles and place them through the grommets on the canvas awning.

Now it’s time to use the rope. The rope will play a major role as a support system. Take the rope and tie it to the grommets, on the side of the poles. Since you have four ropes, use two ropes on each side of the pole. You’ll want to stake the ropes into the ground for support. One rope should point directly straight out from the pole and the other should point directly to the side at a ninety degree angle for more support. Do this to both poles.

This simple process can add a cost-efficient awning to your home. This process will only take a few hours and will allow you to sit back on those hot summer days and enjoy some shade! Good luck and enjoy!

Giving your home a makeover doesn’t necessarily mean you have to spend a fortune. Although interior decorators can be of great help, they can come with expensive professional fees too. The truth is many homeowners have succeeded in sprucing up their living space on their own – without hiring professionals! The following simple home improvement tips on redecorating the home on a budget will tell you how.

Rules should not tell you what or what not to do with your home. After all, it’s your home so you can do what you deem fit for it. But just to get your creative juices flowing, browse through the pages of a magazine about home decoration. Likewise, you may also go online to look for fresh ideas.

Any room can look cramped and messy when there are too many things found in there. Take everything that’s not supposed to be there in the attic or basement. You’ll see that the space can instantly be transformed into something more pleasing to the eyes. Maintain only those that you need. Afterwards, doing some major cleaning will make your living space look, feel and smell fresher.

Instead of buying new furnishings for your room, use what you already have. Sometimes rearranging everything can immediately change the way your interior looks. There’s nothing in this world that painting can’t make appear brand new. You may also exchange some of the furnishings of one room with those in another room to instantly give it a facelift.

But if you really want to have new furnishings gracing your home, it’s still possible to not overshoot your budget. You can go to flea markets, garage sales and secondhand stores to find great bargains. You may also look for online sites selling furnishings with discounted rates. If there’s one you like to buy but it has some form of damage, worry not. Purchase it and let the DIY in you fix everything up.

A bedroom can benefit from adding a new window fixture. It doesn’t matter if you like to go with drapes, blinds, etc. What matters is you put what you find attractive, practical and budget-friendly. Look for the best feature of the room and make it your focal point by adding an appropriate lighting to add drama to it.

Cabinets in the dining room and kitchen can be repainted. But you may also have the knobs replaced for an instant makeover. Look for furnishings that require some improvements. Perhaps throwing a runner or centerpiece on the table can make the area look more appealing.

When it comes to the bathroom, there’s nothing much you can do about it, as the fixtures and accessories can be quite expensive to replace. That’s why you should focus more on decorating. You may bring in decorative soaps, scented candles, new rugs, potted plants, etc. Installing a large mirror can make your bathroom look bigger.

Try not to give yourself a deadline when redecorating your home. Add new pieces or apply new ideas as your time and budget will allow you. By following the home improvement tips above, you will see that giving your home a brand new look need not break the bank.

There are lots of home design tips for great home interior projects on a budget.
