Split Bamboo Fencing – Durable But Unique

Bamboo is a tough and lasting fencing material. Split bamboo is no exception. Split bamboo fencing is more often used in warm, temperate temperatures and is the preferred material in tropical or desert climates.

Using split bamboo fencing produces a fence that is quite striking in appearance. But because it is split it loses some of its durability. While regular bamboo can last for as long as twenty years, split bamboo can be expected to stand up to the elements for about half this length of time.

Split bamboo fencing is different from regular bamboo fencing. Regular bamboo is used as it is grown, in one piece. Split bamboo, on the other hand, comes from only the outer part of bamboo shoots. The pieces are joined together with galvanized wire. Split bamboo often comes in rolls for use in fencing.

Bamboo fencing panels are often made out of split bamboo. This is how it’s done. It starts with split bamboo poles being joined together with about six to eight rows of wire. This makes up a panel.

Heavy duty galvanized wire goes along the tops and bottoms of the poles to keep the panels solid. The middle rows are usually connected with wire that is coated in rubber to allow for flexibility once they are part of a fence.

Then these split bamboo fencing panels are attached to wooden posts. Once the posts are placed in the ground you have an almost instant fence.

It’s important to note that you need to use a frame that has wooden posts that will go into the ground. Bamboo does not last long when placed into direct contact with the ground. If you want your fence to reach right to the ground, frame in the bamboo panels with boards across the bottom of the fence.

You can also tie split bamboo fencing to an outside wall. With the beautiful patterns in bamboo panels you can create a stunning backdrop for a deck or patio this way. And it’s even easier to attach it to an already existing fence.

Use split bamboo on wooden fences. It is a good application because the bamboo can lie flat against the boards. You can easily anchor it in place using stainless steel staples at the top, in the middle and at the fence bottom. Cut the panels to fit if they are too long or too wide.

When applying rolled bamboo panels to a chain link fence, the process is simple. Either wrap the rolled bamboo around the fence or drape the panels over the top. You can attach the panels with heavy-gauge but flexible steel wire tied equal distances apart.

Split bamboo fencing is an alternative to consider if you want a unique look for your deck or patio.

For a truly unique fencing solution, why not consider bamboo fencing. Bamboo fence panels make installation easy. Panels come in a variety of sizes and patterns. Choose from rolled bamboo fencing or split bamboo fencing.
