Metal Carport Kits: Cost Effective Protection For Your Car
Looking for cost effective method of protecting your car? Metal carport kits might the answer; they are strong, durable, cheaper than other types of carports and easy to construct.
These metal carport kits have multiple uses around your property; you might need protection from the elements for your car but they also make ideal shaded areas for gardens or children’s playgrounds. You can also use a carport kit to cover an outdoor living area and so extend the usage you get from it.
Metal carports can be erected free-standing or they can be attached to the house or garage, making them very versatile. The kits come in a variety of standard sizes from single car to multiple vehicle widths and lengths. Most companies will also custom make a carport to your specific requirements and measurements, and provide it in kit form to your address.
The kits are generally available in a choice of steel or aluminum. Steel is a strong metal that will withstand rough treatment and weather. Aluminum is a lightweight metal that is easy to work with, so this may be the better option for your needs. Whichever you choose, you can be sure that your carport will be an effective cover for whatever use you put it to.
The roof of your carport can be flat or sloping, and these will be the cheapest roof shapes. However, if you prefer, most companies will be able to supply you with a hip or pitched roof. The roofline will alter the look of the carport, so it depends on whether you want a simple look or one that is more in keeping with the house.
Depending on your situation, you may need to clad the sides of the metal carport. This can be done with aluminum or steel sheeting, mesh or timber lattice-work. The cladding can cover part or all of the sides, depending on your needs. Remember though that cladding will add to the total cost of the carport.
Kits should come with everything you need to finish the carport, complete with detailed instructions. You could ask about the instructions; look at them if possible, just to ensure that they are actually simple to follow. When the kit is delivered, all pieces are cut to size so you just have to join them up. Start by laying out the individual pieces so you can check that everything is there, and so you can recognize each of the pieces when you need them.
If you have a step-ladder, a screwdriver and a measuring tape, you have all the tools needed to put a carport up yourself. On average, it will take you and a friend one to two days to complete the carport. A small carport will only take several hours but a large one with cladding or a pitched roof will obviously take longer.
You can locate companies that make and supply metal carport kits by looking in your local phone directory, asking at hardware stores or by searching online. An online search will yield thousands of results, and this is a good method of comparing prices and warranties that are offered by different companies.
