Home Landscaping, Sweet Home Landscaping

You have a lawn, and it’s a nice lawn. But a lawn does not landscaping make. You want to give your home the established look that comes with effective landscaping, but you know there is a world of landscaping choices. What you need is the home landscaping that is perfect for your home. Where should you begin?

Sizing Things UP
Begin by assessing your yard. The kind of home landscaping that will most enhance your home depends on the kind of yard you have. What size is your yard? And how much of your yard is already taken up by that nice lawn? Depending on your ratio of lawn to yard, you will have different home landscaping options.

If your lawn has left you enough room, you can incorporate several different home landscaping features in your yard at once. You can plant a flower garden in one area of the yard, and a herb garden in a different area. You can put in a water garden with lights to reflect romantically at night, or a patio. You can even sacrifice a bit of your lawn to your home landscaping by putting in paving stones which lead to the patio, or water garden, or to a bench in the flower garden.

Set aside a corner of your yard, screen it with shrubs, and enhance your home landscaping with your own private retreat. You’ll have to be willing to keep the shrubbery trimmed, but the privacy will make the effort worth your while.

If you live in a part of the country where the soil is known for its stones, think about extracting some of them to use in your home landscaping. If there are enough, you can use them to create a rock garden, one of the most charming forms of home landscaping.

Home landscaping is a great way for you to make your yard uniquely your own, with your favorite flowers, herbs, and architectural elements. And you can do your home landscaping in stages, as long as you have a “master plan” when you begin.

If you need ideas, there are plenty of places to find them. Your local garden supply store, the Internet, and your friends or family are all sources to whom you can turn for advice on home landscaping. Even a drive through a neighborhood of well-landscape homes will inspire you, and you can start making your yard more than just a nice lawn!
